Peace and blessings to all Jews living in all parts of the Diaspora.

Decision of the Mount Zion Rabbinical Court from its session on 10 Cheshvan 5785 regarding Aliyah to the Land of Israel

Peace and blessings

To the esteemed leaders of Israel in the diaspora:

We hereby issue a sacred call to awaken our brothers in exile to ascend and settle upon the soil of our Holy Land, the cherished desire of our hearts.

Our sages and great Torah scholars of blessed memory, from whom we derive life, have already taught us that the mitzvah (commandment) of settling the Land of Israel is of immense importance. This has been affirmed by the Ramban, Rambam, and other halakhic authorities (see Kovetz Igrot Chazon Ish, Vol. 1, p. 175).

In the words of our master, the Vilna Gaon, of blessed memory, in his holy letter:
"I, thank God, am traveling to the Holy Land, which all await to see, the desire of all Israel and the delight of the Almighty, may He be exalted; the yearning of all above and below is directed toward it."

The Chazon Ish further writes (Igrot Chazon Ish, Vol. 1, Letter 90):
"This Torah, which endured ten exiles and built its house in the land of Shinar, is now returning to the desirable Land, the holy Land given to our forefathers as an eternal inheritance."

If at all times this mitzvah outweighs all other mitzvot of the Torah, how much more so now, when the world is in turmoil—writhing with labor pains, voices of war, bloodshed of Israel, and pervasive hatred. This is the most fitting time to hasten the redemption.

As Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi writes in The Kuzari (Part 5, Section 27):
"Even one who stirs love for this holy place in the hearts of people is undoubtedly deserving of reward, for he hastens the time of our hope’s fulfillment, as it is written: ‘You will arise and show mercy to Zion, for it is time to favor her; the appointed time has come. For Your servants cherish her stones and favor her dust.’ This teaches us that Jerusalem will be rebuilt only when the people of Israel yearn for her with complete devotion, to the extent that they cherish her very stones and dust."

The dramatic rise in antisemitism abroad in these times serves as a divine signal for Jews to urgently ascend to the Land of Israel. There are also signs pointing to an impending catastrophic world war, during which the safest place for Jews will be the Land of Israel. "For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance."

In the coming war, the lands that oppressed and harmed the Jewish people throughout history will be especially affected, and these lands are considered “places of danger.” Therefore, we urge you to quickly ascend to the Land of Israel before calamity strikes and save yourselves.

We write this out of reverence for the mitzvah, the immense value of its fulfillment, and the urgency of its implementation.

As the prophet Ezekiel states (36:24):
"I will take you from among the nations, gather you from all the countries, and bring you into your own land."

With blessings for complete redemption, with mercy and joy, The Secretariat of the Rabbinical Court
