Annual Sanhedrin Conference 5767

In times of strife, the individual recognizes the need to be sensitive to the Tzibur at large, a tendency which is expressed through a volunteer spirit; hosting families from the frontlines, and donating money, time and blood. The meaning of Hillel the elder's maxim "if I am only for myself what am I?" suddenly becomes obvious. The individual has no doubt as to his worth and his ability to have an immediate impact for the public good. Total strangers, from all different backgrounds, come together, be it on the frontlines, in the tanks, or on the home front. It is totally irrelevant whether the person next to me is a member "Shalom Achshav" or a resident of Hebron. A unity of purpose lifts us to higher plane.

The "Tzibur B'nei Yisrael" vision is to recreate, not only in times of war, this sense of purpose, and belief in the individual's capability. To be effective in this task we must provide a platform for the individual to express himself. The proliferation of web "talkbacks" and blogs reflects a deep desire to be heard. Yet, these energies, far from being harnessed and channeled constructively, are lost in cyberspace.

Tzibur Vision

The Concert: Astounding, home-grown Israeli music to rock by Aharon Razel
The crowd claps to the beat.

In order to clearly grasp the vision of “Tzibur B’nei Yisrael” we must first open our eyes and hearts to the possibility of a different reality. In effect what we are talking about is a paradigm shift that will allow us to visualize and believe in the reality of “Achdut Yisrael”. We must remove the politically and religiously tinted spectacles that prejudice the way we see each-other.

Imagine being able to gather together the incisive comments of thousands of individuals - web talkbackers - dealing with a spectrum of concerns. Imagine these selfsame individuals coming together voluntarily in meetings and setting up task forces for change. Imagine any number of grass roots initiatives coming to life through the actions of regular people, with regular jobs, who are giving of themselves for the greater public good. These individuals will decide what has meaning and is worth fighting for.

What is sorely lacking is a structure that will facilitate the expression of this enthusiasm and positive energy. If no public office is sensitive to the people’s cries, then should we be surprised that cynicism and apathy are the rule? Our vision is to be sensitive to the individual and his dreams.

Tzibur in Action

"Tzibur B'nei Yisrael"'s plan is distinctive from those of other non-profit organizations in that its agenda is not particular to a specific population or subservient to an overarching ideology. Its raison d'etre is to be a vehicle for the collective will of the people of Israel.

The "Tzibur B'nei Yisrael" staff and volunteers will reach out, directly, without intermediaries, to each and every individual in Am Yisrael. Part of our task is to set into motion a "chaver mevi chaver" dynamic whereby individuals who have already been empowered by joining the "Tzibur" will turn to their friends and bring them onboard. The straightforward appeal to the individual will be "the Tzibur needs you!" Whether the individual has unique expertise, a cause he wishes to champion, or organizational skills, we will let him know that he is important and that his opinion counts.

Dreams can only be realized when we pool our resources and believe in each other. This is what the office of public affairs is about- connecting people and their dreams, and making them believe.

Tzibur and Torah

"All Israel have a share in the world to come, as it is stated: And your people are all righteous; they shall inherit the land forever; they are the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, in which to take pride". The world to come is the sum of all our dreams. When the Talmud says that each of us has a share in the world to come it is in fact saying that each of us is entitled to invest his or her personal dream of a better world. As Jews we have been charged with "Tikun Olam" which not only means "fixing the world" but also "creating the world". Each and every one of us has been blessed with tremendous creative energy. There is no better investment in our future than daring to dream.
