The Nuclear Threat from a Practical Standpoint

Civilian defense... will not prevent the threat of nuclear war. However, it will significantly decrease its odds of occurrence. - Edward Teller, father of the hydrogen bomb.

When Hitler bombed London for the first time, the panic caused much more damage from the bombs themselves. When the residents of London were liberated from the exaggerated fears, life returned to normal, to a large extent. This is what would happen in the event of a nuclear terror attack. - Carson Kirny, advisor to the American government.

Even though nuclear arms have unprecedented, instantaneous destructive power, it is still limited. The publics' fears regarding the results of a nuclear attack or nuclear war are in many ways exaggerated. Clear understanding of these results is necessary for proper management of emergency resources and the survival of the nation.
